Note that Central California experienced a widely-felt earthquake
late last night. The Northern California Seismic Network (NCSN)
reported the quake at magnitued M5.2, located 3 miles southwest of
Gilroy or 14 miles northwest of Hollister, in the Santa Cruz Mtns.

A M2.8 quake occurred this afternoon at 2:33 pm, located 17 miles
south of the town of Lake Isabella. It was felt in Caliente. This
quake is not part of the Walker Pass series, but a new location
further to the southwest.

Commentary

Quite a few people felt a M2.1 in the southern San Fernando Valley
last night. The
time was 11:24 pm, and the epicenter was located 2 miles south-southeast
of Encino. “Felt reports” came from Encino, North Hollywood, Studio
City, Sherman Oaks, Van Nuys, Valley Village, Valley Glen.

Interestingly, there was a M1.7 quake in the Culver City area only
a few minutes later, at 11:50 pm. That epicenter was 2 miles
west-northwest of Culver City, or 3 miles south of Century City.
A M1.7 is generally too small for people to feel. This quake
was not an aftershock of the earlier M2.1, because it occurred at a
completely different location.
