Attempting to be the last earthquake of the year to be commented on, a M3.5 shook 5 miles north of Santa Barbara Island. We were the only ones who noticed since no “felt” reports were received…nor really expected. It occurred at 4:51 pm on New Year’s Eve.

Close to noontime yesterday, a M3.1 earthquake occurred near the Kern County city of Arvin, 12 miles northeast to be exact. There were no reports of it being felt.

A very small quake was felt at 9:10 pm last night, by a few people in the Culver City area. It was a M2.2, located under Baldwin Hills.

It turns out that there was another small quake (M2.2) felt last night in the Orange County area. It occurred at 9:44 pm, 4 miles northwest of Bolsa Chica. We have “felt reports” from Cypress, Anaheim, Stanton & Seal Beach.

A M3.5 quake occurred early this morning 12 miles north-northwest of Indio, or 16 miles east-northeast of Palm Springs. The time was 4:55 am. We have reports that the quake was felt in Indio, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, Desert Hot Springs & Thousand Palms. There was a M2.7 aftershock at 8:09 am.

Another quake in the same location, near Arvin, occurred today at 2:49 pm. The location was 12 miles northeast of Arvin & the magnitude was M2.7.

In general, the seismicity is fairly low in southern California. Low is not nothing, however; there was a M2.9 quake this morning at 7:42 am. The epicenter was located 12 miles northeast of Arvin, or 20 miles east-southeast of Bakersfield. We have received no “felt reports” so far.

A M2.9 quake occurred offshore late yesterday afternoon, at 5:53 pm. The epicenter was located 29miles west-southwest of Oceanside. We have received no “felt reports”.
