There as a M2.9 quake early this afternoon in the Anza-Borrego desert about 11 miles southeast of Ocotillo Wells. The time was 1:08 pm. So far we don’t have any “felt reports”. This epicenter is in a fairly remote area, in the San Jacinto fault zone.

A M4.2 quake along the Landers rupture zone was fairly widely felt last night. The time was 11:15 am & the epicenter was located 20 miles northeast of Lucerne Valley. The focal mechanism is strike-slip. Because we can still see (after more than 10 years) the Landers aftershock zone outlined in earthquakes on the seismicity maps, that means the aftershocks are still going on & last night’s quake is a Landers aftershock. Felt reports have come in from the Big Bear, Lucerne Valley, Victorville, Barstow & Phelan areas so far.
