There were more “felt” quakes in the Valencia area late last night. The largest was a M3.9 at 11:02 pm, located 5 miles west of Valencia. It was widely felt from Frazier Park (top of the Grapevine) to Santa Monica & Pasadena. Peak intensity was Modified Mecalli IV. There was a M2.6 foreshock at 11:01 pm & a M2.4 aftershock at just shy of 11:04 pm, both of which might have been felt in the immediate Valencia area. This epicenter is the same as that of the M3.2 on Monday.

We just had another small one in a different “isolated area”. There was a M3.6 near Mt. Whitney, in the Sierras, 16 miles southwest of Lone Pine. So far, we have reports that it was felt in Porterville, Three Rivers, Lone Pind & Yosemite National Park.

Commentary

There was a M3.0 quake early this afternoon, at 1:07 pm, 2 miles west-southwest of Ocotillo. We don’t have any felt reports yet, but it probably was felt in Ocotillo, judging from the size. This epicenter is close to the Elsinore fault.

Two small quakes were felt over the weekend. The first was a M2.8 at 7:53 pm Friday night. This quake occurred 5 miles east-southeast of Mt. Baldy & was reported felt in Wrightwood & Lytle Creek.

The other one was a M2.5 at 3:43 am, 4 miles south of Redlands. It was felt in Moreno Valley.

There was a M2.9 quake at 10:48 pm last night, located 16 miles east of Barstow. As far as we know, it was not felt. This quake might or might not (statistically speaking) be a Landers aftershock. The epicenter is in a detached (from the main fault) group of such aftershocks & the aftershock sequence in general can still be easily seen on the seismicity maps. However, that particular region has been inactive for quite awhile.
