Yesterday at 3:33 pm there was a ML2.9 quake (feelable size)in the Sierras 14 miles west-northwest of Inyokern. Later, at 8:57 pm, there was a ML3.2 at a different location in the Sierras, 11 miles west-southwest of Olancha. We have a few isolated “felt reports” on both of them.

A ML3.9 quake occurred late last night in the southern Sierras. The epicenter was locate 11 miles southwest of Olancha & the time was 11:20 pm. It was reported felt in the Little Lake, Lake Isabella & surrounding areas. There was a ML2.8 aftershock at 6:08 am this morning.

There was a ML3.2 quake at 9:10 this morning, located in the San Jacinto fault zone 6 miles north-northeast of Ocotillo Wells. We don’t have any reports that it was felt.

A M2.9 quake occurred at 5:51 pm this evening, located 1 mile NNE of Los Angeles Airport, in El Segundo. We have received “felt reports” from Santa Monica to Long Beach, and as far east as La Habra. Peak intensity was Modified Mercalli IV.

Two small quakes of interest occurred over the weekend. The first was a ML3.2 at 8:55 pm on Friday, which took place 6 miles east-southest of Anza. It was reported felt in the epicentral area: Anza, Idyllwild, Mountain Center, Palm Desert, La Quinta, Cathedral City, Indian Wells & Indio.

The second quake was a ML3.1 at 3:23 am on Sunday, 13 miles east-southeast of Ocotillo, near the U.S./Mexico border. It was not reported felt.

Late yesterday afternoon, at 5:09 pm, the Big Bear area experienced a ML3.5 earthquake. It was felt in the epicentral area & as far as San Bernardino, Riverside & Victorville. Peak intensity was Modified Mercalli IV. The epicenter was located 5 miles north-northwest of the town of Big Bear Lake. There have been a small handful of aftershocks, including a pair of ML2.5’s that might have been felt.

Northern Imperial Valley experienced an earthquake swarm last night, between about 4 pm & 6 pm. The largest events were a ML3.5 at 4:30 pm, a ML3.6 at 4:33 pm & a ML3.4 at 4:55 pm. The epicenters were all about 4 miles north-northeast of Obsidian Butte, at the eastern edge of the Salton Sea, in the Brawley Seismic Zone.

Small earthquakes are also occurring along the Imperial fault about 5 miles south-southwest of Holtville. The largest of these is a ML2.4 at 11:37 am yesterday.
