The Obsidian Butte swarm is continuing this afternoon, with an escalation in the rate of small earthquakes & in the magnitudes that are occurring. At 2:49 pm & 3:17 mw, we saw a ML3.2 & an ML3.1. At 3:45 pm there was a ML3.4, followed closely by a pair of ML4.4 events. These occurred at 3:47 pm & 3:50 pm. All the locations are in the same area northeast of Obsidian Butte.
Swarms such as this are not uncommon in the Imperial Valley & similar sequences of events have occurred near Obsidian Butte.

Overnight, there was a small cluster of small earthquakes in the Irwindale area, just west of the Santa Fe Dam recreation area. The largest ones were a pair of ML2.4’s at 11:08 pm & 12:01 pm. There were also ML2.3’s at 3:55 am & 4:21 am. The focal mechanisms are strike-slip. Nine events were recorded in all. I have a very small handful of felt reports for the ML2.4’s, from Bradbury & Monrovia.
