Last night at 11:49 pm a M4.1 earthquake occurred 5 miles north of Big Bear City. It was felt lightly in the epicentral area and weakly in areas further away. Whether lightly or weakly, its shaking was felt as far north of Barstow and as far south as Temecula. Since the rate of earthquakes in that region has returned to the way it was before the M6.3 Lander’s aftershock, last night’s earthquake isn’t really considered an “aftershock” of any sort. The area has had some activity though, during the past 10 years there have been 13 earthquakes M4.0 or greater – including a M5.4 in February 2003.
