Offshore earthquakes

Filed under: Felt Earthquakes — kate @ 7:22 am

It has been somewhat of a week for offshore earthquakes. The latest activity is a small cluster of quakes about 15 miles south-southeast of the east end of Santa Cruz Island (one of the Channel Islands). The largest ones were both yesterday: a ML3.1 at 1:52 am & a ML3.2 at 5:41 pm.

Earlier, we saw a ML3.1 & a ML2.8 southeast of San Clemente Island (or about 65 miles west of San Diego). These quake occurred at 10:26 pm & 10:43 pm on Saturday.

A little closer to home, there was a ML2.6 at 5:10 am Sunday, located 18 miles southwest of Newport Beach.

None of these quakes are noteworthy of themselves & none was strong enough to be felt on the mainland. It’s a map that we do not see every day, however.
