At 5:28 pm today, a ML4.3 quake was recorded in the Imperial Valley region, 6 miles southwest of Salton City. It was felt by a few people as far away as San Diego & Palm Springs. The focal mechanism was strike-slip. The ML4.3 quake was followed by a string of aftershocks, including two M3+ events so far (a ML3.2 at 5:30 pm & a ML3.0 at 6:59 pm).

Earthquakes in northern Baja
Two moderate earthquakes occurred this morning in northern Baja, within one minute of each other. They were: a ML3.8 at 8:30:51 am PDT & a ML4.5 at 8:30:21 am PDT. Both epicenters were 14 miles northeast of Maneadero, Mexico, or 15 miles east of Ensenada, Mexico, or 64 miles southeast of San Ysidro, California. Although both of them may have been felt as far north as southern California, probably most of the “felt reports” we are receiving belong to the second, larger event. Preliminary moment tensor solutions show strike slip motion, which is consistent with the tectonics of the area.
