3 quakes overnight

Three quakes of interest happened overnight. The first was a ML2.4 just before 10:10 pm last night, located 2 miles north of Fontana. It was reported felt by a few people in Fontana & Rancho Cucamonga.

A M3.4 quake occurred at 2:53 am, offshore 11 miles west-northwest of San Diego. It was reported felt in the San Diego & La Jolla areas, with a few reports from as far as Carlsbad & Spring Valley.

A third quake of the same magnitude (ML3.4) at 6:08 am did not attract much attention due to its location in the Hector Mines aftershock zone 11 miles southwest of Ludlow. The time was 6:08 am.

Quakes at 9:13 & 9:31 pm

Two small quakes Tuesday evening were reported felt by a few people. The one at 9:13 pm was a ML3.7, located 5 miles east-southeast of Ocotillo Wells. It was reported felt in Boulevard, Salton City, Julian, Poway & even as far away as San Diego & Fallbrook, but only be a few people.

The other one was a ML2.9 at 9:31 pm, located 12 miles northwest of Tehachapi. It was reported felt in Tehachapi itself.

M3.5 Chatsworth Aftershock

At 12:23 PM today, there was a M3.5 aftershock of the M4.5 Chatsworth earthquake we experienced last week. It was located in the same area as the mainshock, and the M3.5 aftershock was felt over a wide area of the SF Valley. It was felt as far away as south Los Angeles and Orange County. and as far north as Gorman. If you felt this quake, and would like to report it, click here.. M4.6 Earthquake in the San Fernando Valley – 4 Miles NNW of Chatsworth, CA

There was a M4.6 earthquake in the San Fernando Valley at 12:58AM this morning, located 4 miles NNW of Chatsworth, CA. This quake was felt widely throughout the San Fernando Valley. If you felt this quake, and would like to report it, click here. There was some slight damage caused by today’s earthquake, but most isolated to cracked plaster and items knocked off shelves. The moment tensor solution is consistent with a west-northwest striking oblique reverse fault, located within the complex geology of the Northridge Hills fault.
