Data Processing

Data processing occurs at the real-time level, where data are telemetered from the seismic stations to the laboratory via T1 lines, frame relay, microwave transmission, radio frequencies, earthworm, internet, and analog circuits. The redundancy of telemetry enables the SCSN to have protection in the event of a major emergency, where one or more methods of data telemetry are compramised. The following pages will help to paint a picture of the network data processing methods, from the real-time processing beginning to the finalization of the event in the catalog at the data center. The picture that is painted is very large, complex, and sometimes abstract....but all necessary in the scheme of things.
