This area has been very active seismically in the recent past, with a M<sub>L<\/sub>5.2 Wheeler Ridge Earthquake on 16 April 2005, preceded by the M<sub>W<\/sub>5.0 2004 Arvin Earthquake (17 miles N\/E of Arvin, CA) on September 29, 2004, an earthquake triggered by the M6.0 Parkfield Earthquake a day earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n--><\/p>\n<p>The M<sub>W<\/sub>4.7 Mettler Earthquake, which occurred at 1:24:48PM, was preceded by a M<sub>L<\/sub> 3.4 foreshock which occurred 44 seconds earlier, at 1:23:04 PM. Due to the small size of the quake, no surface rupture should have occurred, which precludes the identification of the causal fault for this event.
